Early Wednesday morning, March 28, 2012, a 25-year-old woman died after a car hit her on Highway 99 and left the scene of the accident. The woman, Shacorie R. Hood, had run across the highway to help people who had been in a crash, the Fresno Bee reports, when a vehicle hit her at approximately 1:30 a.m.

According to California Highway Patrol as reported by the Fresno Bee, a Buick had crashed and was stopped in the center median on the northbound side of Highway 99 near McKinley Avenue. Hood, and other people traveling in a car on the highway, had stopped to offer help. Witnesses said a Honda or Acura hit Hood as she ran across the highway, and the driver of the car that struck her did not remain on scene.
