1 woman is dead and 5 other people are hospitalized with unknown injuries after a teenage girl carjacked a vehicle from a shopping center and crashed into another vehicle carrying a family at a busy Palmdale intersection on Sunday evening, Feb. 18th. The initial carjacking began at a gas station in the 37100 block of 47th Street East sometime around 2:00 p.m. The Palmdale Police Department received a report of a stolen vehicle, a white Toyota RAV 4, and issued an ABP (All Points Bulletin). Shortly afterwards officers spotted the stolen vehicle and initiated a chase. According to Palmdale Police the chase only lasted for a few brief seconds before the stolen vehicle collided with a black SUV at the intersection of West Palmdale Boulevard and 10th Street West at 4:40 p.m. The black SUV was carrying a male adult, a female adult, 2 teenage boys and a young toddler boy. All 5 occupants of that black SUV were rushed to nearby hospitals where the female adult succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead a short time after arriving. The teenage girl suspect was also transported to the hospital and later taken into custody by authorities upon her discharge from the hospital. She faces several charges that have not been released as of yet. The identity of the woman who died was not made public until next of kin is notified. The intersection was temporarily closed while detectives conducted their investigation.
