Fremont, CA (July 23, 2019)- A video has gone viral after it captured a San Francisco Bay Area police officer pulling a man from a burning vehicle Saturday evening, July 20th. Fremont resident Beth Koenig captured the viral video just blocks from her house along Curtner Road. Koenig says she initially heard screeches and then a loud crash as she rushed out of her house to see a mangled SUV that began spouting flames. Fremont Police Department says the SUV struck a tree on Curtner Road and this forced the driver, described as a 28-year old male, to lose control of the vehicle and collide into another tree which impaled the vehicle trapping the driver.

Koenig began recording the fiery scene on her smartphone as Fremont Officer Jason Trzewieczynski attempted to extinguish the fire. Officer Trzewieczynski then enters the back of the SUV where he is able to extricate the driver from the burning wreckage. “He shouldn’t have survived,” Koenig said. “He did, and he walked away, and it’s because of that officer.” On Monday, evidence of the wreck remained including scorched grass, burnt vehicle parts, and burn marks. The tree that was hit had been removed. Fremont police said it’s investigating the crash as a possible DUI. The driver was taken to the hospital after the crash.
