Two Teens Dead after Fatal Crash into Almond Tree near Caruthers


Caruthers, CA (September 23, 2018) – Two teenagers were killed Sunday, September 23rd, in a crash just outside of Caruthers, California Highway Patrol said. At around 6 p.m. that day, CHP officers from the Fresno area responded to a report of a single-vehicle traffic collision on Walnut Avenue, and found two male occupants in a 1998 Honda Civic. The two, identified as Augustin Sanzon Flores and Marcos Gonzalez Silvestre, both 19 years of age, were pronounced dead at the scene. Investigations report that the driver of the Civic was speeding down Walnut Avenue approaching Elkhorn Avenue, and spun onto a dirt shoulder when he suddenly lost control the vehicle. CHP said the front of the car struck several almond trees in an orchard adjacent to the roadway, which caused extensive damage to the car and the deaths of the occupants. Neither of the two had been wearing a seatbelt, and officials have not determined if impairment was a factor in the accident.
