Two women were killed and three others seriously injured when their car crashed through a chain link fence and into a tree early Sunday morning in Monterey Hills.

According to spokeswoman Katherine Main of the Los Angeles Fire Department, the crash took place at around 1:30 a.m. near the Avenue 52 exit of the Northbound 110 Freeway, where a blue Nissan Sentra Sedan lost control and crashed, suffering major damages.

Firefighters were called to the scene to cut each of the five women out of the vehicle, which was completely destroyed. Two were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers were transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital in critical condition, and the driver, who was the only occupant wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was admitted to USC Medical Center, also in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle, who has not yet been identified, was also arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The group was allegedly returning home from a birthday party when the crash occurred.

One of the two women killed has been identified as 23 year old Ana Caudra, a mother of a 2 year old son and a recent graduate working as a dental assistant. Information about the other woman has not yet been released, but all five women have been confirmed within the 18 to 23 age range.

Following the accident, the California Highway Patrol closed down multiple lanes of the freeway to allow for extensive cleanup and a closer investigation into what may have caused the vehicle to veer off the road. Debris from the accident was scatter across multiple lanes and the vehicle itself was destroyed nearly beyond recognition as a car. Shortly after 5 a.m., all lanes were reopened.
