Two Killed, Another Seriously Injured in Alcohol Related Crash

Two people were killed and another seriously injured after their car lost control and crashed into two parked vehicles early Saturday morning in Escondido.

According to Escondido Police Officer Thomas Venable, the accident took place in the southbound lanes of the 1500 block of North Broadway Street at about 2:40 a.m., where a vehicle lost control and crashed into two cars parked on the side of the road in front of Escondido High School.

Police and firefighters who responded to the scene found the driver of the vehicle and the front seat passenger already dead. A passenger in the backseat who was alive but seriously injured was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. No one else was hurt in the crash.

The identities of the two who were killed have not yet been revealed, as the county coroner’s office is still working to notify their next of kin.

The accident forced the closure of North Broadway Street as crews cleared the accident from the road and paramedics removed the bodies from the scene. An initial investigation into the accident suggests that alcohol was to blame for the crash, as numerous beer bottles were found inside the vehicle.

Witnesses to the accident or anything with pertinent information about the situation are being encouraged to contact the Escondido Police Department as soon as possible.
