The crash, which happened around 7:25 a.m. on June 26, 2012, involved two vehicles at the intersection of Wagner Avenue and Sunkist Street, The Orange County Register reports.

According to reports from the Anaheim police Officer Doug Elms, the accident occurred when the driver of a Ford Escort was speeding in the westbound lanes of Wagner Avenue early in the morning. Suddenly, and without warning, the driver attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Sunkist Street. A Toyota Camry that was in the intersection crashed into her car and then spun around several times before ending up facing the wrong way in the middle of the intersection. Luckily, no other vehicles were involved in this car wreck even though both vehicles stopped in the middle of the intersection. Witnesses said that the sun was very bright that morning and may have contributed to the accident by reflecting off of the drivers’ windshields and mirrors. Several witnesses reported the accident to the proper authorities and both crews from the police department and the fire department of Anaheim responded to the calls.

The driver of the Camry, identified only as a middle-aged male, suffered serious bodily injury, according to Capt. Tom Roach of the Anaheim Fire Department. The driver of the Escort was said to be a younger female according to several witnesses. She sustained minor injuries such as cuts and scrapes from broken glass. Both victims of the accident were transported to the emergency room at the UCI Medical Center in Orange.

Several lanes throughout the intersection were closed in all directions, which resulted in traffic being backed up for miles. At one point, motorists were forced to turn around and seek alternative routes of transportation because there was no way to pass while the accident was being cleared. Investigators arrived at the scene after the victims were transported to the hospital to begin searching for evidence relating to the cause of the crash. They also interviewed witnesses who had gathered around the crash scene. If you witnessed this collision and would like to add any relevant details, please contact your local police station.
