OXNARD, CA (October 1, 2021) – On Wednesday night in Oxnard, a hit-and-run driver struck and killed a teen who was riding a bicycle. Police arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal crash, which occurred on Hemlock Street, close to where N Street is located.

The time was roughly 8:30 p.m., Oxnard Police said.

The boy had been riding a bicycle and traveling west when a vehicle hit him from behind. The impact of the crash threw the boy from the bicycle.

The person who had been driving the vehicle left the crash scene.

Responders arrived and transported the victim to VCMC. He died in the hospital.

The victim was a resident of Port Hueneme, 16 years old. His name has not been reported.

Some time later, police located the vehicle they believe was involved in the crash. The vehicle had been left in the vicinity of Paterson Road and Hemlock Street, reports say.

Authorities arrested Julio Cesar Sanchez–a resident of Oxnard, 39 years old–on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit and run.

Investigators are continuing their work on the crash.
