Byron, CA (October 7, 2018) – A driver suspected of DUI was arrested Sunday morning, October 7th, after his vehicle crashed on Byron Highway and killed his passenger, the California Highway Patrol said. Authorities report that the incident occurred in the early morning at around 2:17 a.m., when the suspect, identified only as a 25-year-old Brentwood man, was speeding in his Dodge Magnum and drove off the highway into a traffic signal pole. The immense damage from crash had split the vehicle in half, according to CHP. An unidentified passenger in the vehicle was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene by officials. The suspect, name pending release, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries and held in custody after release, CHP said. Authorities continue investigations and urge anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact Contra Costa CHP at (925) 646-4980.
