Suspected Drugged Driver Smashes through Home

A man suspected of driving under the influence was arrested after crashing his truck into a Fairmont Park home after a failed U-turn late Monday night in San Diego.

According to local police reports, the crash took place at around 11:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of Bridgeview Drive, where a truck smashed through the home’s garage and bedroom, finally coming to rest just feet from where the home’s occupants were sleeping. Fortunately, no one inside the house was injured.

The driver of the truck told police that he was attempting a U-turn at a nearby intersection when his car sped off on its own, even though his foot was not on the accelerator. Following an investigation of the vehicle however, police found what appeared to be a pipe, and placed the driver under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

The accident inflicted major damage to the home and truck, a light blue Ford F-series pickup. Much of the garage was collapsed and destroyed, and splintered bits of wall were scattered throughout the property. The house’s landscaping was also trampled and run over.

The two residents of the home were lucky to have escaped without injury.
