Semi Truck Hits Teen Pedestrian on I-15 in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CA (April 20, 2022) – Early in the morning on Sunday in San Diego, a teen who was walking on Interstate 15 was struck by a semi truck, and died. The April 17 crash occurred on the northbound side of the roadway, near Carroll Canyon Road and to the south of it.

The time was roughly 5:30 a.m., according to Salvador Castro. Castro is a public information officer with the California Highway Patrol.

According to authorities, the pedestrian was walking on the right-hand shoulder beside the roadway. For reasons that are not known, the man stepped into the lane of traffic.

When he was walking in the lane, a semi truck–described as a Freightliner–struck him.

Responders arrived to help, but the man died at the crash site. He was identified only as 19 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.

The truck driver remained at the crash site and cooperated with the investigation. The driver’s identity is not known from reports.

Investigators are continuing to work on the crash.
