2 Killed in a Small Plane Crash near Petaluma Airport

Petaluma CA (May 27, 2018) – According to fire officials a small plane crashed near the Petaluma Municipal Airport killing 2 early Sunday morning, May 27th. The crash happened around 4:00pm when witnesses around the area noticed the plane spiraling down towards the roadway between Washington Street and Adobe road. Witness Jim King said he had been used to seeing planes take off and immediately knew that there was something wrong with the plane before it went down. The man and woman killed in the accident were identified as Richard Bristow and Sue Bristow. Richard was flying a Van’s RV-6 amateur built custom-manufactured plane that had apparently been in service since 1996. According to Lieutenant Brian Miller of the Petaluma Police Department, the cause of the accident is still unknown, but it is to their understanding that the plane took off from the airport and had been attempting to return. No other cars or pedestrians were reported to have been involved in the crash that happened near Washington Street or Adobe Road. Additional information is currently being collected to find out more about the cause.
