Pedestrian Killed in Hollywood Hit and Run

Police are still on the lookout for a two men who struck and killed a pedestrian before running from the accident on foot early Monday morning in Hollywood.

According to witnesses on the scene, the crash took place at around 5:10 a.m. at the intersection of Romaine Street and Western Avenue, where a rental silver sedan was weaving in and out of lanes before hitting two trees and smashing into a pedestrian standing on the sidewalk.

The victim, a man in his early 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene by responding officers. His identity has not yet been releases, as the LA County coroner’s office is still working to notify his next of kin.

Those who saw the accident said that after the accident, the two men inside the vehicle, a white man and a black man, changed their shirts and jumped into another vehicle and drove off. The license plate of the second vehicle was taken down and given to LAPD.

Police investigators closed down Western Avenue between Santa Monica and Melrose avenues to allow for cleanup of the accident and to search for anything that may lead to an arrest. The rental car, which was totaled in the crash, had to be dragged from the scene.

At this time there is little information about what may have caused the crash, but the erratic driving does suggest that some kind of illegal substance was a factor.

Though no arrests have been made at this time, police are working to track down the owners of the getaway vehicle and hope to bring the case to a close within the coming days. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the LAPD as soon as possible.
