OCEANSIDE, CA (June 9, 2022) – Early in the morning on Sunday in Oceanside, a hit-and-run driver struck and killed a pedestrian who walking on the sidewalk. The June 5 crash occurred on Benet Road close to where Leepish Drive intersects.
The time was roughly 8:19 a.m., Adam Morales said. Morales is a sergeant with Oceanside Police.
A vehicle–described as a Honda SUV, black in color–had been heading east on Benet Road when it went onto the sidewalk on the south side of the street, and struck a woman.
The suspect hit-and-run driver executed a U-turn, according to authorities, and fled the crash site without helping the victim.
Responders found the victim down on the ground and tried to help, but she died at the crash site.
Her identity, including name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.
Investigators are searching for the suspect hit-and-run driver, and the vehicle involved in the crash.
