Multi-Car Crash Closes Parts of the 405 Fwy in Long Beach

Long Beach, CA (August 20, 2019)- California Highway Patrol has announced the closure of most lanes of the 405 Freeway following a multi-vehicle collision involving a big rig in Long Beach Tuesday morning, August 20th. The incident occurred sometime around 9:30 A.M. on the southbound 405 Freeway connector with the 710 Freeway. According to the California Highway Patrol’s incident log, a big rig collided into the center divider where it spilled its cargo of industrial pipes all over the roadway which caused 2 other vehicles to collide with the debris in the roadway. Around 10:20 A.M. the big rig began to leak diesel fuel and a total of 75 gallons were released. A hazmat team has been called out to assess the situation. It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured. The carpool and left 3 lanes of the northbound 405 Freeway have all been closed causing traffic was backed up in the area. It was not immediately clear when the roadway would be fully reopened.
