Motorcyclist Run Over in Buena Park Hit and Run

Police are still on the lookout for a driver who struck and seriously injured a motorcyclist early Tuesday morning in Buena Park.

According to local police reports, the crash took place at approximately 12:20 a.m. at the intersection of Knott and Orangethorpe avenues, where a full-size Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck allegedly ran a red light driving eastbound on Orangethorpe, forcing a motorcyclist traveling northbound on Knott to brake hard to avoid a collision.

“Apparently the motorcyclist saw that the truck driver wasn’t going to stop, so he hit the brakes and the motorcycle went end over end,” said Sergeant Judith Williams of the Buena Park Police Department. “The motorcyclist flew off the bike and, according to one of the witnesses, was run over by the truck’s back tire.”

After striking the downed rider, the pickup truck then continued down Orangethorpe. The truck is being described as black or grey in color with tinted windows. The motorcyclist, who has not been identified, was meanwhile rushed to UCI Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition. It is unknown if the rider is expected to make a full recovery.

Anyone with any information about the vehicle or the driver involved in the accident is being encouraged to contact the Buena Park PD as soon as possible to assist in the investigation.
