The accident, which happened in one of the lanes of the highway just north of Highway 32 around 12:20 a.m., caused the 38-year-old man major injuries when a vehicle ran over him and left the scene.

The Bee’s news story says a witness told CHP that the man, identified as Todd Meshekey of Chico, was lying on the road, and that several vehicles took evasive action to avoid hitting him. CHP also stated that one driver had tried to get the man off the road and away from traffic. Meshekey moved from the road to the right shoulder after the vehicle hit him. That vehicle left the scene before CHP arrived.
