Two cars were hit, and one of them was demolished when a Light Rail train hit them this morning around 11:20 a.m. at 10thand O Streets in Sacramento’s downtown area. The March 29, 2012 accident resulted when the Light Rail lights malfunctioned and gave cars and pedestrians the right of way to cross, witnesses and train passengers said, as reported by News10 Sacramento. The train, which had been traveling east on O Street, entered the intersection and hit the two cars.

According to News10 Sacramento’s story, a black BMW was demolished in the crash, and a second vehicle—a sedan—spun out. A male driver who was trapped in the BMW was rescued by Sacramento firefighters who extracted him. Responders took the injured man to the hospital.

Responders attended to the woman who had been driving the other car involved in the crash. She suffered minor injuries, but she was not transported to a hospital.

News10 Sacramento reports that two passengers on the train said they had minor injuries.
