Woman Sentenced in Hit-and-Run Death of Teenage Bicyclist

A hit-and-run driver from Oxnard was sentenced to three years in the county jail after she killed a high-school student on a bicycle.

23-year-old Dominique Rush and her 44-year-old father Steven Rush were both arrested and sentenced for their involvement in the crash.

The accident occurred when German Alex Romero and a friend were traveling on their bicycles along De Soto Avenue on the 10th of April, 2011 in Canoga Park. Romero was then struck from behind by a vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at the scene when emergency crews arrived, as family members looked on.

Rush pleaded no contest to gross vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run.

She was sentenced to 2 years and 8 months in jail. Her father was sentenced to 10 days in jail for concealment of the accident.
