High Speeds Likely Involved in Fatal Solo Accident

A single vehicle crash killed its driver after smashing through a number of roadside obstacles late Wednesday night in Garden Grove.

The crash was reported at 11:50 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Lampson Avenue near Manley Street where a white Ford Contour crashed into the raised center median of the street and then went through a wooden pole and a block wall.

The driver, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics who responded to the crash. Authorities are still in the process of notifying the man’s next of kin. No other drivers or pedestrians were involved in the accident.

An initial investigation into the crash suggests that the driver may have been travelling well beyond the speed limit at the time of the accident.

According to Garden Grove police investigator Jason Perkins, “It’s a 45 mph roadway and I think he was traveling above that speed. It is not known if drugs or alcohol were involved.”

The crash caused a small power outage, shutting down power for 35 residents in the area. Crews from Southern California Edison were sent to the scene to repair the damaged power poll on Thursday morning. All power was restored by Thursday afternoon.

The eastbound lanes of Lampson Avenue were closed down between Blackmer and Manley streets to allow for crews to clean up the mess of brick wall and vehicular debris.

The Garden Grove Police Department is asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them for any more information on the particulars of the crash.
