High School Student Killed

A 17-year-old high school student was killed Monday when was hit by a car while jogging the night before. She was a student of Saugus High School.

According to a Hart Union School District spokeswoman, high school senior Jennifer Stift died at 8:30 p.m. Monday.

“Jennifer was a popular student and well-liked by many here at Saugus,” wrote Saugus High School Principal BIll Bolde in a letter to parents. “Many have lost a best friend. All of us have lost a Centurion family member.”

The tragedy occurred when Stift was jogging in her Santa Clarita neighborhood, which is located about 40 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. She was hit by a car, according to the California HIghway Patrol. She subcumed to her injuries at the hospital.

The driver of the car, a 17-year-old boy, was not arrested nor charged. Neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the crash, according to officials. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, said officials.

Stift was an active member in her school, She was a member of the school’s swim team and theater program, according to the school. A vigil is planned for Stift at the school’s outdoor stage on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
