ONTARIO, CA (August 2, 2021) – Late at night on Friday in Ontario, a driver struck and killed a Caltrans worker on the 10 Freeway. The July 30 crash occurred in an area between the Archibald Avenue offramp and the Vineyard Avenue offramp.

The time was roughly 11:00 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

Authorities said the victim had been working with other Caltrans workers on the westbound side of the freeway. The area where the victim was working was the number 4 lane and number 5 lane.

A vehicle–described as a Toyota sedan–traveled into the Caltrans work area indicated by orange cones, and struck the victim, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Responders transported the injured man to Pomona Valley Hospital. He died in the hospital.

His name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.

Witnesses stopped the person who had been driving the Toyota from leaving the crash site, the California Highway Patrol said.

Authorities took the person into custody; the person has not been identified in reports.

Investigators are continuing their work on the incident.
