Driver Crashes after Fleeing from Police in Torrance

August 23rd ─ a man, described to be in his 20s, is in critical condition after he crashed while attempting to evade police. The man is suspected of trying to sell drugs to patrons inside a popular Torrance restaurant, early Wednesday morning. The incident began at Texas Loosey’s, 22252 Palos Verdes Boulevard, where Torrance Police officers responded to a disturbance call involving the suspect offering drugs to patrons inside Texas Loosey’s. As officers arrived and tried to talk to the man inside his vehicle, a 1984 BMW, he accelerated and sped away forcing officers to pursue. Officers chased the suspect for a few minutes before losing sight of his vehicle.

Around 1:35 a.m. minutes after the initial disturbance call, authorities arrived at the scene of a crash involving the same 1984 BMW and found the suspect, who had struck a fire hydrant and slammed head-on into a utility pole then finally coming to rest near the intersection of Sepulveda Boulevard and Walnut Street. Rescue crews dealt with downed power lines and rushing water before they could get to the man, who was ejected from the BMW and became trapped underneath, according to first responders. The suspect was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition. No further information has been released to the public. Sepulveda Boulevard was closed in both directions between Border and Western avenues while officers conducted their investigation into the collision. No other injuries were reported.
