SAN DIEGO, CA (August 12, 2022) – Late in the afternoon on Thursday in San Diego, a collision involving a sheriff’s deputy’s patrol vehicle and a civilian vehicle injured a woman. The August 11 crash occurred in the area of Coronado Avenue and the offramp for I-5.

The time was roughly 5:15 p.m., San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.

According to authorities, the deputy was responding to an emergency call and had his lights illuminated and siren activated while he drove on Coronado Avenue.

The deputy was heading east, authorities said, stopped at the intersection, and went through when he saw traffic had yielded.

A car–described as a Ford Mustang, white in color–exited the freeway from the offramp, and as the patrol vehicle was traveling through the intersection, it collided with the passenger side of the car.

Responders transported the Mustang’s driver to the hospital. Reports say she suffered injuries to her back.

She was identified only as 34 years old. Her name and city of residence have not been reported.

Reports say the deputy was not injured in the crash. The deputy’s identity has not been reported.

Investigators with San Diego Police are collecting and examining the crash details and information.
