July 20th ─ a 1-year old child was killed and 4 others were injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash on the 14 Freeway, near the Sierra Highway and Red Rover Mine Road exits, between Aguas Dulces and Acton early Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 6:20 a.m. when a black Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV that, for reasons unknown, veered to the right and crashed into the dirt embankment along the freeway. According to the California Highway Patrol, the Trailblazer SUV rolled over several times, and a 1-year old girl was ejected from the vehicle. 5 individuals sustained injuries, including 3 children, all of whom were in critical condition following the collision. A helicopter landed on the freeway to pick up those injured. The 1-year old girl was airlifted to Antelope Valley Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by medical staff. The driver, a 37-year old woman, and three other passengers: two 8 year-old boys and a 14-year old boy remain hospitalized with major injuries, CHP officials said. The cause of the accident remains under investigation and it is unclear if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the wreck.
