The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of a woman who was killed on the Golden State (5) Freeway following a 2-vehicle collision that also left 3 children injured in Sylmar Saturday morning, Mar. 4th. The woman identified as 32-years-old Virginia Almajer, of Fresno, was traveling southbound on the I-5 Freeway in a 2012 Nissan Rogue. As Almajer approached the Calgrove Boulevard, north of the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway, she rear-ended a 2017 Lexus IS 250 in the fast lane near the 210 Freeway interchange. The Nissan Rogue then proceeded to until it crashed into the center median divider and came to a stop. The accident was reported to California Highway Patrol around 10:00 a.m. and first responders arrived on scene to find Almajer and 3 children inside the Nissan Rogue. According to California Highway Patrol Officer D. Hall, Almajer was found unresponsive at the scene and EMT tried to resuscitate her but she was later pronounced dead at the scene. All 3 children were rushed by ambulance to a nearby hospital where they were treated. An 8-year old boy was critically injured and treated for head trauma and the other 2 children suffered minor injuries and were listed in fair condition. The driver and passenger of the Lexus were described as Van Nuys residents and were not injured during the collision. The southbound No. 1 and No. 2 lanes of the Golden State (5) Freeway were closed at 10:20 a.m. and re-opened at 2:13 p.m., CHP reported.
