The 24-year-old woman, Chelsie Encinas, died in the collision, which happened roughly at 5:35 p.m. on April 2, 2012, according to the Alameda County Coroner’s Office and Officer Steve Creel of the California Highway Patrol.

Encinas had been traveling in the right lane of the eastbound Interstate 580 in her Nissan Altima when the other car pulled onto the Interstate just west of North Flynn Road. According to Officer Creel’s statement in the Mercury News’s story, the vehicle pulled in front of Encinas. To avoid the vehicle, Encinas swerved to the left. A Dodge Dakota then hit her broadside on the driver’s door, Officer Creel said in the news story.

Encinas died at the scene of the accident. Two people who had been traveling in the Dakota suffered minor to moderate injuries, Officer Creel stated in the news story. Responders took them to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley.
