A woman killed in a suspected DUI motorcycle accident over the weekend in Rancho Santa Fe has been identified.

According to the California Highway Patrol and the county Medical Examiner’s Office, 49-year-old Stephanie England of Escondido was killed when the three-wheeled Harley-Davidson motorcycle she was a passenger in lost control and crashed on Via de Fortuna just before 10:30 p.m. last Saturday.

After veering off the road, the bike reportedly rolled down an embankment near El Camino del Norte and crashed into a patch of trees and a wooden fence.

When the gaudy and impractical motorcycle finally came to rest, it pinned England against the ground, where she was killed as a result of a fractured neck.

The motorcycle was being piloted by the woman’s fiancé, 58-year-old William Jimenez, who was arrested at the scene on suspicion of felony drunken driving and transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla for treatment of serious injuries, though he is expected to survive.

Drunk driving is never acceptable. Even in a four wheeled automobile, DUI accidents can do serious harm to those involved, if not kill them. In motorcycles, which are much, much more dangerous, accidents almost always result in serious injury. According to national crash statistics, more than 80% of all such accidents end in jury.

If you have been cutting loose at the local bar, you should never attempt to operate a vehicle, especially a motorcycle. Doing so unnecessarily puts yourself in danger, as well as everyone around you.

If you or someone you know has been injured in a dangerous motorcycle accident as a result of a pilot under the influence of alcohol, you should seek help. Depending on the circumstances of your accident, you may be entitled to compensation to help you cover the financial burdens placed upon you as a result of the damages you received.
