Two Officers Injured in Crash outside El Pollo Loco Restaurant

Two Los Angeles Police Department officers were en route to investigate a deadly shootout when they were injured in a car crash in front of an El Pollo Loco restaurant.

The crash occurred near Santa Monica Boulevard and St. Andrews Place before 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Both officers were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At about 2:50 p.m., David Juarez, 20, of Hollywood, was shot while he was traveling southbound on St. Andrews Place by an unknown suspect on foot.

Juarez’s car then smashed into a lamppost on Santa Monica Boulevard and he died instantly.

Investigators believe that the shooting was gang-related.
