drunk drivingAmerican Canyon High School gave students an opportunity to experience drunk driving first hand without the use of alcohol.

Car accidents are the leading cause of death for teens.

They used peddle carts and goggles that simulated the blurred vision of intoxication. The students were given the task of driving around cones on the ACHS grounds.

Saturday Night Live helped organize the event.

Texas Transportation, Teens in the Driver’s Seat, Texas A& M, and UC Berkeley participated in the event.

Peers were used to engender trust in the students and lend to the acceptance of guidance and leadership.

Raising the awareness of Driving Under the Influence is a goal  for Saturday Night Live.

Over 3,000 teens die each year in auto accidents. An additional 300,000 are injured. These accidents cost in excess of $40 billion in medical and insurance costs.

State Farm also participated in the event.
