San Diego, CA – U-Haul Driver Suffers Medical Emergency on SR-163

San Diego, CA (July 28, 2018) – The driver of a U-Haul died after having an apparent medical emergency on State Route 163 near Hillcrest in San Diego County, Saturday afternoon July 28th. The incident occurred sometime after 3:00 p.m. when California Highway Patrol received calls regarding a man inside a U-Haul van who was unconscious with his body across the steering wheel and who was driving about 20 mph on the southbound SR-163 near the Robinson Avenue. Minutes later dispatchers were notified that the U-Haul van had overturned on the right hand breakdown lane. Fire Authorities were the first to arrive and were able to extricate the driver who was pronounced dead by first responders sometime after 3:30 p.m. Authorities have not released any further information on the driver until next of kin is notified. The right lane of Route 163 was blocked in the area while officials investigated the crash. The left lane remained open.
