Police Officer Thrown from Car, Killed
An officer from the Los Angeles Police Department died in an off-duty accident on the southbound 101 Freeway in Sherman Oaks on Saturday.
23-year-old Jose Cruz Diance Jr. died at about 6 a.m. at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, just after the accident.
Diance Jr. was apparently driving his Ford F-150 when he hit a metal guardrail at about 3:20 a.m. near the Van Nuys Boulevard exit. The guardrail punched through the side of the car and he was thrown from the vehicle while still seatbuckled into the driver’s side seat.
