Police Ask the Public’s Help to Find Suspected Hit-and-Run Driver in LA

Los Angeles, CA (August 6, 2019)- Authorities are seeking the public’s help in finding a hit-and-run suspect who struck and dragged a 15-year old boy through the streets in South Los Angeles on August 6th. According to police, the victim, 15-year old Roberto Diaz, had just purchased a soft drink from a nearby liquor store when he was struck while riding his bicycle through a crosswalk near the intersection of Maple Avenue and 37th Street on the evening of August 6th. The suspect had failed to yield to a stop sign and blew right through it, that’s when police say the suspect’s vehicle struck Diaz and dragged him nearly 1,500 feet. CCTV footage from a bank located at 35th Street and Maple Avenue shows a dark colored SUV narrowly avoiding a collision with the suspect’s vehicle which had Diaz lodged in the back wheel well. Another video captured from a liquor store on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd captured the moment that Diaz was dislodged from the back wheel well as an onlookers points to the suspect’s vehicle. Diaz was picked up by first responders and transported to a nearby hospital where he has been treated for his injuries. Diaz was scheduled to undergo his 6th surgery. Doctors are hopeful they will be able to save Diaz’s arm and leg. The suspect vehicle is described as a blue Honda Accord or Civic.
