A solo vehicle accident toppled a large tree and took down power lines early Tuesday morning in Lake Forest.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash took place at around 6 a.m. at the intersection of Live Oak Canyon and El Toro roads where a vehicle crashed into a tree along the side of the road, which fell into nearby power lines, blocking all traffic lanes and cutting power to the area.

Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved in the crash, and the falling tree and power lines did not result in any serious damages to anyone in the immediate area. The condition of the driver who hit the tree is not known at this time, though any injuries are not believed to be major or life threatening.

The accident forced the indefinite closure of Live Oak Canyon between El Toro Road and Plano Trabuco as emergency crews work to clear the downed tree from the road and safely restore the downed power line and bring electricity back to those homeowners who lost it.

CHP officer Denise Quesada says that at this time it is unknown when the road will finally be reopened, but she cautioned drivers in the area to avoid the intersection, as the entire roadway in both directions is blocked.

Live Oak Canyon has long been a debated stretch of road for residents in the area. Some are calling the road too dangerous, and in need of restructuring, while others argue that accidents like this are caused by drivers disregarding safe speeds through the area.

Driving above the posted speed limits on straight roads is dangerous enough, but when the road gets twisty, safe speeds become even more important. It only takes a slight misjudgment of speed through a tight turn to find your vehicle unable to stay on the road and slamming into a tree.

If you or someone you know has been injured in a crash as a result of a dangerous high speed driver, you should seek help immediately. If you are finding yourself buried under an avalanche of medical bills and car payments brought upon you through your ordeal, compensation may be available to you.
