Los Angeles Crash on I-5 Involving Big Rigs and Passenger Vehicles Kills One Person, Injures Six

LOS ANGELES, CA (December 27, 2021) – Early in the morning on Christmas Eve in Los Angeles, as many as nine vehicles collided on I-5, killing one person and injuring six. The December 24 crash occurred on the freeway’s southbound side, close to where Dodger Stadium and Stadium Way is located in Elysian Park.

The time was roughly 8:07 a.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

According to authorities, a vehicle–described as a Toyota Matri–had been heading south when it went out of the driver’s control, for reasons that are not yet known.

A number of vehicles were affected by the initial crash, reports say, including a big rig which had been traveling behind the Toyota.

Reports say the driver of the big rig tried to miss striking the Toyota, but the Toyota was crushed between the big rig behind it and another big rig.

The other vehicles of the approximately nine that were reported to have been involved in the crash have not been described.

Responders arrived and found the person who had been driving the Toyota was killed in the crash. The identity of the person has not been reported.

Responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department worked to free one person from the wreckage of a vehicle. They transported three patients to hospitals in the area.

The patients were identified as a girl, 11 years old; a woman, 29 years old; and a woman, 67 years old. No one’s name has been reported.

The types of injuries of the patients, and their current condition, are also not known. None of the drivers have been identified.

Investigators are working to understand why the crash happened.
