Police and the family of an 18 year old boy killed in a hit and run accident last month in Valley Glen are asking the public for help tracking down the driver responsible.

According to accident reports and surveillance video of the scene, the accident took place at the intersection of Oxnard Street and Bellaire Avenue on March 24, where a light colored Mercedes SUV ran through a red light on Oxnard Street and crashed into David Granados, who was riding his bicycle home from a friend’s house.

After striking Granados, the SUV continued on down the road without any attempts at slowing down, let alone stopping to help the injured teen. An analysis of the available footage showed that the SUV was traveling at speeds above 50 miles per hour, and no attempt to stop was made. Paramedics were called to the scene, and the rider was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. After a two day fight, he was pronounced dead as a result of the injuries he sustained. Granados was a senior at Grant High School, and had just celebrated his 18th birthday.

“It’s so inhumane how they didn’t help a person,” said a relative to reporters. A memorial was erected at the scene of the accident, adorned with flowers and candles commemorating Granados’ life cut short. Next week, his family plans to visit the LA City Council to ask for a reward to be implemented for information leading to an arrest of the hit and run driver.

The driver is described as a middle aged, heavy set white male, driving an SUV now featuring noticeable damage to its front end. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has any information about the driver is being encouraged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department as soon as possible.
