Boyle Heights, CA (August 22, 2019)- The Los Angeles Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in finding the hit-and-run suspect that struck and severely injured a bicyclist in Boyle Heights, a Los Angeles neighborhood, Thursday evening August 22nd. The collision occurred sometime around 10:20 P.M. at the intersection of Whittier Boulevard and Calzona Street where the victim, identified as Gabriel Lopez, was struck head-on by a white pickup truck while riding his bicycle. The pickup truck fled the scene. Witnesses rushed to Lopez’s aid and called an ambulance. Gabriel Lopez, spoke to authorities and said he continues to suffer a lot of pain from the collision. Lopez spent 3 days in the hospital being treated for a broken vertebrae blood clot. The suspect’s vehicle is described as a white 2011-2018 Chevrolet/GMC full-size pickup truck. It has a red front bumper, lower valance air deflector, black rims and a black bed cover. It also may have a custom white rear bumper and possible aftermarket headlamps and tail lamps. It also now has front-end damage. The city has a reward program that offers up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest of a hit-and-run driver.
