Authorities received reports of a fiery crash just after 2:15 a.m. on Thursday on the westbound side of the 210 near the Roxford Street exit.

According to the California Highway Patrol, who were investigating the crash, a UPS tractor-trailer truck was hauling two trailers on the westbound side of the freeway. Suddenly, a compact sedan came racing down the freeway at a high speed and traveling against the traffic.

The driver of the big-rig tried to swerve out of the way, but could not manage in time and ended up colliding with the other vehicle.

The truck’s rear trailer rolled over the center wall that divides the two sides of the freeway and landed on the other side, blocking traffic.

The driver of the sedan, identified only as a female in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released, pending notification of her family.

The big-rig driver had to be cut from his vehicle with heavy machinery, and was transported to the hospital, but authorities said that he would survive the crash.

The westbound 210 was completely closed to traffic at Polk Street.

The two leftmost lanes were shutdown in both directions while emergency crews worked to clear the area of debris.

The lanes were finally reopened at just before 11 a.m.

Authorities have not yet determined whether the accident was caused by drugs or alcohol and are still investigating.

Several other big-rig crashes have occurred recently throughout Southern California. For instance, an April 9 crash in Glendale was the result of a drunk driver crashing into a big-rig.

The crash occurred when the driver of a Honda Accord drove into a tanker that was carrying two trailers of fuel. The collision caused the fuel to ignite and the fire spilled all over the 134 freeway just near the junction with the 5 freeway.

It took firefighters about 90 minutes to control the blaze. The 25-year-old driver of the Honda Accord was arrested on suspicion of DUI. No one was injured in this crash luckily, although portions of both the 134 freeway and the 5 freeway were destroyed.
