BAKERSFIELD, CA (November 22, 2021) – On Friday morning in Bakersfield, a crash involving an SUV and a semi killed a driver and injured two passengers. The November 19 crash occurred on South Union Avenue where Jose Ramos Court intersects.

The time was roughly 8:50 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

A vehicle–described as a GMC Envoy–had been going south on Union Avenue. According to authorities, the SUV was traveling through fog, which limited visibility.

A semi truck was traveling on Jose Ramos Court and going across the intersection of South Union Avenue. Authorities said the SUV collided with the semi truck.

The force of the crash lodged the SUV part way beneath the trailer of the semi truck.

Responders arrived and pronounced the person who was driving the SUV deceased at the crash site. The identity of the driver has not been reported.

Two other occupants of the SUV–identified as a woman and a girl, 3 years old, suffered injuries that were described as major. Authorities said the child had not been seated in a car seat at the time of the crash.

Responders transported the two patients to Kern Medical Hospital. Their current condition is not known. The patients have not been identified in reports.

The identity of the truck driver is also not known. Reports do not say if the person was hurt in the crash.

Investigators are continuing their work on the incident.
