Alcohol Contributed to Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Woodland

Woodland, CA – The Yolo County Coroner’s Office has identified a motorcyclist who killed in a single-vehicle collision that authorities say alcohol played a role in Wednesday evening, June 3rd. According to California Highway Patrol, alcohol contributed to the death of 55-year old Timothy Thomas of Woodland. The incident was reported to authorities around 5:15 P.M. in the eastbound lanes of State Route 16 at Tabers Corner in Capay Valley. Thomas was traveling at a high rate of speed in a 2001 Honda VT750 and failed to negotiate a left hand curve in the roadway. The motorcycle proceeded to travel of the southern edge of the State Route onto a grassy embankment and rolled down its side into a ditch. The motorcycle proceeded down into the ditch where it collided with a metal gate. Thomas was ejected from the motorcycle and was found a few feet south of where the motorcycle had come to rest.  Thomas was not wearing what the CHP consider a legal helmet with liner and padding and had no Department of Transportation icons on the helmet itself. EMTs arrived with the Yocha Dehe Fire Department and pronounced Thomas dead at the scene. “The preliminary investigation indicates alcohol may have been a factor in the collision,” according to the CHP report.
