81-Year-Old Woman Dies in Crosswalk
Cypress police said that an 81-year-old woman died on Tuesday evening after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street.
Officers responded to an emergency call at about 6:30 p.m. of a traffic accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian near the Los Alamitos Race Course, between Walker and Moody streets.
The woman was taken to the UCI Medical Center in Orange, where she died a short time later.
She was identified by the Orange County coroner’s office as Ngoi Nguyen of Cypress.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
According to police, Nguyen was crossing the street when she was hit by the car and is believed to have been struck while she was in a crosswalk.
Police have not yet determined whether the pedestrian or the driver had the right-of-way.
Both directions of Cerritos were closed between Walker and Moody for several hours while investigators and crews worked to clear the scene.
