Multiple agencies throughout Orange County joined forces to patrol and set up sobriety checkpoints this weekend as celebrations for St. Patrick’s Day continued throughout the night.

Officers arrested 64 people for suspicion of driving under the influence throughout the St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

The patrols lasted from 6 p.m. March 16 until 6 a.m. on March 18. There were several agencies involved including the California Highway Patrol, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and police departments.

Fortunately, there were no fatal DUI collisions reported, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

The next time that DUI patrols will be so strictly enforced is over the Memorial Day Weekend and Cinco de Mayo in May. Many of the same agencies involved in this weekend’s enforcement will participate again.

A grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety provided the funding for this program, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
