1 Killed in Fatal Wrong-Way Crash involving Suspected DUI on Highway 101

Monterey County, CA – (October 1, 2018) A 68-year-old man from Gonzalez died in a suspected DUI crash involving four cars near Monterey County on Monday evening, October 1st, California Highway Patrol said. CHP officers responded to a call shortly after 7:30 p.m., when a man driving a Chevrolet Silverado in the wrong direction on southbound Highway 101 crashed head-on with a Nissan Frontier. The driver of the Nissan, identified as Raymondo Navarro, was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said. The Chevrolet driver, identified as 44-year-old Luciano Rojas Medina, was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries, and arrested on suspicion of DUI. Two other vehicles, including a Honda Odyssey and a BMW sedan were involved in the incident, but were assessed to have very minor injuries and refused medical transport, CHP said. CHP continues to investigate the crash as Medina is held within police custody.
