A freight train struck a passenger vehicle in Riverside on Friday morning and disrupted Metrolink service throughout the Orange County area.

The collision was reported at about 5:30 a.m. by Metrolink officials between Riverside and La Sierra.

The accident occurred when a man in his 40s drove his pickup truck on the tracks and was hit by the freight train.

The train was traveling westbound at the time of the accident and pushed the pickup for about 500 feet.

The tracks reopened at about 9 a.m. and all trains are now back in service.

Buses were scheduled to take stranded passengers to their destinations.
