A multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 5 in San Clemente happened when a big-rig truck collided with another vehicle on an off-ramp on Monday.

After the crash, two women were in critical condition and authorities had to close Avenida Pico while firefighters tried to cut one person out of their vehicle.

The two women were in their 20s and were transported to a local hospital after a big-rig exited the freeway.

Apparently, the big-rig ran a red light and crashed into a BMW and a Volvo SUV that were in the intersection.

The southbound off-ramp will be closed until further notice, according to authorities.

The big-rig driver exited the freeway from the Avenida Pico ramp and then barreled through the intersection where he hit a BMW and a Volvo SUV. Both vehicles then crashed into another big-rig truck that was on the ramp as well.

The two women in the Volvo were in critical condition and taken to the hospital.

The driver of the BMW suffered minor injuries and the two children in the back seat were not injured
