An elderly bicyclist was killed on Wednesday morning after he was hit by a sedan in Huntington Beach, according to police records.
Emergency crews responded to calls of a traffic accident near Bolsa Avenue to the west of Able Lane at 11:15 a.m.

Teen-aged Bicyclist Killed In Crash In Las Vegas
A teen-aged bicyclist was killed Wednesday evening when he collided with two vehicles on Flamingo and Ft. Apache Road, 8 News Now reports. One of the drivers involved in the accident, which occurred in Las Vegas on February 1, 2012, was Julia Rivera, and as she told 8 News Now, she was waiting at the light just before the collision. When the light turned green, Rivera said, she started to go, and that’s when the teen on the bicycle dashed in front of her car.
Rivera said to 8 News Now that she clipped the tire of the bike, which threw the victim off his bike, into another lane, and underneath another car. She also said she was very shaken about the collision, and felt panic, and called 911.
Police are not charging her, Rivera said, because the bicyclist crossed when he did not have the right of way. Investigators are looking into identifying the victim.

San Clemente Officials Focusing on Pedestrian and Bike Safety
San Clemente City officials are concentrating their efforts to turn San Clemente into an example of a bike-and pedestrian-friendly place.
The first victory for bicycle enthusiasts in the San Clemente area came last spring, when officials installed a traffic signal at the intersection of Avenida Estacion and El Camino Real so that crossing would be safer for bicycle riders.
In March, the General Plan Advisory Committee will review the bicycle and pedestrian draft plan for more additions to the city. It will be discussed until August when a vote will be held.
On January 1, 2011 a state law named AB1358 (or the Complete Streets Act) came into effect in California. It emphasizes making the streets more accessible for other types of transportation and updating existing roads to include bike lines, crosswalks and traffic signals.
The city has hired a consultant to draft the new plans for the city’s “complete streets.” They have also raised the idea of changing one of the flood-control channels into a bike and pedestrian path between San Clemente High School and North Beach.
On the southern side of town, officials are revising plans for a road reduction at South El Camino Real from four lanes to two. They would create a turn lane in the middle with diagonal parking spaces on the inland side and a bike lane on the side closest to the I-5.
Another victory for bicyclists has been won, when the city voted for an upgrade to the Avenida Pico/I-5 that would be safer for bicyclists.

An SUV collided with a bicycle on Thursday morning in Huntington Beach.
Police responded to the scene at 11:40 a.m. at Heil Avenue west and Goldenwest Street, where a 2006 brown Ford Explorer had collided with the bicycle.
Both men involved in the accident are Huntington Beach residents and were traveling in the same direction when the accident occurred.
The bicyclist was transferred to a medical center to be treated for his injuries. The SUV driver, an 81-year-old man, cooperated with investigators.

Unlucky Bicyclist Injured in Two Car Crash
A bicycle rider was injured in Fountain Valley when two SUVs crashed and one of them swerved off the road and hit him. The accident occurred just before 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Bushard Street and Talbert Avenue.
According to the police report, the two SUVs collided in the intersection which caused one of the SUVs to swerve off course and strike the bicyclist.
The 29-year-old bicyclist was taken to a nearby hospital with severe injuries.
The initial cause of the crash is uncertain, but the authorities do not believe that drugs or alcohol was a factor.
