The driver of a commercial dump truck said that failed brakes on the vehicle caused him to lose control and ram it into two cars before flipping it over.

Police received reports of the accident at 9:58 a.m. on Monday on Lake Forest Drive at the intersection of Canada. The truck was carrying asphalt to a construction site and was headed west on Lake Forest Drive when he failed to halt at a stop sign.
The truck was traveling down a hill when the brakes failed. Â It slid through the intersection and hit a Ford truck and a compact car. It then went over the curb on Canada and Lake Forest and into the parking lot of a nearby apartment building. It rolled over and came to a stop on its passenger side.
A passenger in the Ford truck was pinned and authorities had to use the Jaws of Life to cut him out. The man was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries. Firefighters were also called on scene to clean up a fuel spill.
The drivers of the other two vehicles were not hurt, but the front ends of both cars were severely damaged.
Southbound Canada remains closed, but Lake Forest Drive was reopened.
Investigators are still trying to determine if the truck did indeed suffer a mechanical failure.
