California Wal-Mart Car Crash Injures 4

At least four people were injured Sunday after a person crashed a vehicle through the front of a Wal-Mart Supercenter in San Jose. After wrecking, the driver got out of the car and began to assault bystanders.

It all began when a red Oldsmobile Cutlass sedan crashed without warning through the front automatic sliding doors of the store shortly after 11:15 a.m. It ended up near the pharmacy section at the storefront on top of a beer display prior to coming to a stop.

San Jose police Officer Albert Morales told reporters that the unidentified driver then exited the car and used a blunt object to attack people.

When authorities arrived on the scene they arrested the rampaged driver.

Detectives were on the scene to help piece together the details of the wreck. They reported that the driver was in his thirties but were unable to determine the speed the vehicle was traveling prior to crashing into the store front. The vehicle penetrated about 20 feet into the storefront at a time when about 70 people were shopping inside.

Morales told reporters that at least one person suffered serious injuries. He was unsure as to what extent of seriousness. And three other people were injured as well, one of which was a store employee. None of the people involved suffered life-threatening injuries.

Prior to making a grand entrance through the store, the driver fist sideswiped customer Sharon Kaye’s vehicle at the store’s parking lot. Witnesses stated the driver made several runs around the parking lot prior to driving between poles at the entrance and crashing into the store.

“At first, I thought I may have done something to anger him while driving,” Kaye told reporters. “But then I realized he was out to get into the store.”

Authorities enclosed the crash scene with yellow police tape and store employees covered the front doors with large pieces of cardboard during the investigation.

Kory Lundberg, A Wal-Mart spokeswoman told the news reporters that the store was closed for several hours, and confirmed that one employee was among those hurt.

“We’re obviously very concerned about the associate who was injured,” the spokeswoman said.

Shopper and witness Tianna Doan told reporters that the employee was a cashier who was hit with the object and had a head injury.
